Ethics & Sustainability
Consciously curated for a slower pace of life. For us sustainable fabrics are just the start, all aspects of our business must reflect our core ethics.
We are aware the impact the industry has on both our planet & people. In creating every piece of Bower we consider our carbon footprint, the impact on the environment & the safety / wellbeing of those who produce each component that makes our garments.
Part of giving our customers the knowledge to make the right purchases we are trying to aim for transparency. This means disclosing our factories & suppliers names & addresses, responding to any requests for information about our product & constantly improving on our processes.

Factory
We have partnered with a small atelier in Rimini, Italy called GISE SrL, who have over 20 years experience producing swim & resort wear.
Our choice to produce in Europe is to ensure we can visit regularly and guarantee that all employees are paid under EU guidelines and are provided with safe working conditions. We can guarantee the safety & job security of those involved creating our garments and are proud of the relationship we have with the team.
Gise has been certified with the Bollino Etico Sociale stamp. This approval is a standard of attestation that leads companies to higher levels of awareness & work ethic as well as responsible business management. The stamp is based on a specific Standard that takes as a reference the international standards ISO UNI26000 "Guide to Social Responsibility" and SA8000Social Responsibility 8000 and the related legal and regulatory references. The standard therefore provides basic elements of social responsibility regarding the involvement of stakeholders, on fundamental issues and specific aspects of social responsibility as well as on how to integrate socially responsible behavior within an organization.
An audit is carried out on a yearly basis to ensure Gise maintain the stamp & the expected standards of practice.
In line with the Code of Conduct we have set out with our suppliers Gise not only ensures to comply with 3rd party audits but pays a living wage to all employees whilst also providing employee benefits including paid holiday & sick leave, medical cover & maternity leave, in line with Italian business law.

Materials & Components
All swim fabric is made in Italy & produced using ECONYL® yarn, a 100% regenerated nylon yarn derived from pre and post industrial waste such as discarded fishing nets, carpet fluff, tulle etc.
Our resort wear is made from a variety of sustainable & responsibly sourced fabrics.
At this time all linen is ethically produced in Portugal, printed to order & dyed in limited quantities to ensure minimal waste.
All our hardware & underwires are produced in France with Santoul, who have over 50 years experience.
We choose suppliers located within Western Europe to minimise our carbon footprint by creating a short supply route for all elements.

Diversity
Currently our business is made up of just 2 people (Rupert & Fiona, Co-Founders). However, we are committed to ensuring diversity as we grow our brand.
We have a long way to go but will start small, this will be done through better representation on our social platforms, within our look books & with the creatives, models & freelancers we work with.
We want to ensure equal opportunities for all & have a culture that is based on being fiercely anti-racist. We have a lot to learn & ask our community to hold us accountable & teach us wherever they feel we need to be taught.

Closing the Loop
From March 2019 1% of all orders will be donated to the Healthy Seas initiative.
Healthy Seas was established with the aim to remove waste, in particular fishing nets, from the seas for the purpose of creating healthier oceans & recycling marine litter into textile products.
They apply a 2 way approach in order to achieve their mission. Namely, recovering ghost fishing nets from our seas & ensuring discarded nets will not end up in marine ecosystems or in landfill. To learn more about what Healthy Seas do & where your 1% donation will be used visit healthyseas.org
